Cardiac Investigations is a highly specialist cross-site team, providing diagnostic testing of the heart. The Cardiac Investigations team comprises Cardiac Physiologists, Clinical Scientists, Cardiographers and our amazing administration team. Information about our Echocardiography, Pacemaker Services and Ambulatory Monitoring teams can be found below.
The Angiography Suite has a dynamic and innovative team, consisting of nurses and HCAs who pride themselves on consistently delivering a high standard of care. Angiography is a type of X-ray used to check blood vessels. Blood vessels do not show clearly on a normal X-ray, so a special dye called a contrast agent needs to be injected into your blood first. The type of work done by the team means that they work closely with Cardiac Investigations.

About Our Service
Services offered by our team include: diagnostic cardiac catheterisation, insertion of permanent pacemakers and other cardiac devices, and cardioversion. We also work closely with the Cardiac Investigations team to provide transoesophageal echocardiogram, CT coronary angiogram and dobutamine stress echo.
Before admission, patients undergo a pre-assessment consultation. Then, on the day of the procedure, patients are admitted to the angiography suite, and where they remain for their procedure and recovery. Prior to being discharged home, a management plan is developed with the patient, ensuring that they are fully informed of the result of the diagnostic test and recommended future management options.

About Our Service
Echocardiography is one of the most widely utilised diagnostic tools in a Cardiology department. It is routinely used to aid diagnosis and treatment planning for a range of patient groups, from all referral specialties and primary care. We offer a range of services including trans-oesophageal echo (TOE), Dobutamine stress echo, exercise stress echo (treadmill/bike), contrast echo and bubble study echo.

About Our Service
Alongside our cardiologists and arrhythmia nurse specialists, our dedicated team of specialist pacemaker cardiac physiologists currently provide services including:
- Pacemaker implantation and follow up (currently PCH only)
- Community pacemaker check clinics at several sites including: Stamford Hospital, Doddington Community Hospital, The Johnson Community Hospital (Spalding), North Cambridgeshire Hospital Wisbech and Rutland Memorial Hospital Oakham
- Loop recorder implant and follow up services (currently PCH only)
Ambulatory monitoring
Our team provide the following services at both Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke sites.
- Full disclosure 24-hour ECG monitoring (aka. 24-hour tapes) for inpatients
- 24 to 72-hour and 7 to 14-day full disclosure tapes for outpatients
- 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
- Exercise tolerance tests (aka. an 'ETT' or 'treadmill test')
- AliveCor Kardia ECG devices for up to six weeks
